Technical editing

I offer technical editing services for knitting pattern designers. At the moment I only tech edit patterns for knitted accessories (e.g., socks, hats, mittens, fingerless gloves, blankets). Sock patterns are my speciality, as I’ve published over 20 sock patterns myself.

Technical editing services offered:

  • Check for spelling and grammatical errors
  • Check all calculations and stitch counts within the pattern
  • Verify all charts and written instructions
  • Check your pattern against your style sheet (if applicable) and/or check for consistency within the pattern
  • Check for clarity
  • Provide recommendations regarding layout

Additionally, I can help you to develop a style sheet or generate charts and/or written instructions using Stitch Fiddle. I can also typeset your patterns using LaTeX.

I prefer to annotate a PDF version of your pattern using Adobe Acrobat, but Google Documents can be used as well. My turnaround time for a first edit is one week or less. A final read through takes less than 3 working days.

I charge 25 EUR per hour excl. VAT, billed in 15 minute increments. All invoices are payable via Paypal within 14 days. Customers from the European Union also have the option to pay via SEPA transfer.
Note that customers located within the European Union will pay 30.25 EUR per hour incl. VAT unless they can provide a valid VAT number.

To give you an idea of the price, simple one size accessories typically take between 30 minutes and 1 hour to tech edit. More complex accessories that come in multiple sizes and/or have multiple charts can take between 1 and 2 hours to tech edit. Please contact me for an estimate.

Translations

For Dutch speaking designers who want to reach a larger audience, I also offer translation services for knitting patterns from Dutch to English.

My credentials

I love knitting and spreadsheets, so technical editing is a logical choice for me as it is a combination of both. As a fervent knitter and knitwear designer, I have experienced first hand how important clear and error free patterns are. My eye for detail and meticulous note taking will definitely help you create the best possible version of your knitting patterns.

I have a masters degree in English and Dutch linguistics and literature from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. I have a lot of experience proof reading both fictional and non-fictional texts. You can count on me for fast, professional and correct work.
